Stmicroelectronics (ST) group was formed in June 1988 by the merger of SGS microelectronics of Italy and Thomson semiconductor of France. In May 1998, sgs-thomson Microelectronics changed its name to stmicroelectronics LTD. Stmicroelectronics is one of the world's largest semiconductor companies, with revenue of $9.85 billion in 2006 and $4.69 billion in the first half of 2007.
